The MOOKA GROUP
The name MOOKA derives its meaning from the Northern Sotho (Sepedi) language, signifying “the coming together of good people.” In Tswana, it refers to a tree belonging to the Thorn tree family, commonly found in the Rustenburg area and its surroundings.
MOOKA Mining and Industrial Services (MIS), based in Rustenburg, was established on 1 November 2007 by Mr. Gert Schoeman to fulfill a specific need within the mining industry of the North West. In 2017, Ms. JN Mthimunye-Xipu acquired 51% of the shares, rendering Mooka MIS a 51% black women-owned enterprise.
In 2022, MOOKA MIS evolved into the MOOKA Group, comprising MOOKA MIS (Mining & Industrial Services) serving North West and Gauteng, MOOKA M&M (Mining & Minerals) operating in Limpopo and Mpumalanga, and MOOKA DMR (Dikela Mineral Resources) catering to the Northern Cape and Free State regions.
